Próffræðilegir eiginleikar foreldraútgáfu BASC-2 listans (Behavior Assessment System for Children) voru athugaðir í hópi 6-11 ára barna á Íslandi.

  • The aim of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties for the Parent Rating Scales (PRS) of the Behavior Assessment System for Children, second edition (BASC-2) questionnaire for six to eleven year old children in Iceland. The questionnaire is made to measure behavioral and emotional strengths and weaknesses of children and adolescents in preschool through high school. Two elementary schools in Reykjavik agreed to participate in the study. A number of 142 mothers and 109 fathers participated, a total of 251 parents. Psychometric properties was independently observed for a sample of mothers and fathers. Factor structure was assessed and reliability of BASC-2 was evaluated from both the Icelandic and the American version of the list. Reliability of the American version in Icelandic sample was in general terms medium or acceptable in both samples. Factor analysis revealed fewer factors than the American version of the list, for both adaptive and clinical scales. Reliability of the Icelandic version was substantially lower than the questionnaire originated from America. There was a high degree of consistency between fathers and mothers and parents tended to rate boys higher on externalizing problems but girls higher on internalizing problems. The results are indicative that further evaluation of the BASC-2 questionnaire is needed with a larger sample, validity studies should be carried out and norm should be made for Icelandic population.
