    Markmið rannsóknarinnar var að kanna val 10. bekkinga á Suðurlandi og Norðurlandi eystra á námi í framhaldsskóla í ljósi mismunandi námsframboðs í framhaldsskólum í heimahéraði. Rannsóknin beindist að vali nemenda á námsbraut, viðhorfum og væntingum til náms og starfa og hvort val nemenda væri í samræmi við áhuga. Könnunin náði til 171 nemanda á Suðurlandi og 150 nemenda á Norðurlandi eystra. Helstu niðurstöður sýndu að meirihluti nemenda í 10. bekk velja námsbraut í framhaldsskóla í samræmi við áhuga. Langflestir nemendur hyggjast velja bóknámsbraut til stúdentsprófs og flestir nemendur hafa mikinn eða nokkurn áhuga á þeim brautum. Næstflestir hafa mikinn eða nokkurn áhuga á listnámsbrautum og þar á eftir brautum í matvæla- og ferðaþjónustugreinum. Ekki kom fram munur eftir búsetu á námsvali og heldur ekki á samræmi milli námsvals og áhuga og því eru fyrirætlanir nemenda landshlutanna áþekkar. Munur kom fram eftir búsetu á áhuga nemenda á bóknámsbrautum til stúdentsprófs og á brautum í matvæla- og ferðaþjónustugreinum. Fleiri nemendur á Suðurlandi en á Norðurlandi eystra höfðu mikinn eða nokkurn áhuga á bóknámsbrautum til stúdentsprófs en aftur á móti höfðu fleiri nemendur á Norðurlandi eystra en á Suðurlandi mikinn eða nokkurn áhuga á matvæla- og ferðaþjónustugreinum. Vonast er til að niðurstöðurnar geti nýst sem innlegg í endurskoðun námsbrautalýsinga framhaldsskólanna. Þær ættu einnig að geta verið gagnlegar fyrir náms- og starfsráðgjafa sem eru að aðstoða nemendur við val á námsbrautum.

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the choice of 10th graders in primary school, in both the Southern and Northern parts of Iceland, on the topics in secondary school, in the light of the difference in the offered line of studies at their local schools. The research was directed at the students´ choice of study line, their attitude and their expectations to their studies and vocations, and if students´ choices were according to their interests. The survey was presented to 171 10th grade students in Southern Iceland and 150 10th grade students in Northern Iceland. The main conclusion showed that the majority of the 10th grade students choose a line of studies in secondary school, according to their interests. Most of the students plan academic pathways to finish secondary school and most of them are interested or at least have some interest in academic school work. The second largest group of students, show great or some interest in the field of art studies, followed by them are students who show interest or at least have some interest in culinary studies and tourism. No difference was found between the choice of studies nor on accordance between choice and interest based on residence, therefore the planned line of studies for students in Southern and Northern Iceland seems to be similar. There was a difference in interest between the students in Southern and Northen Iceland regarding the choice of studies to the final secondary school exam, the students in Southern Iceland showed more interest in academic study. The students in Northern Iceland expressed more interest in studies in the fields of culinary studies and tourism. The findings will hopefully have an impact on the revision of the educational topics or the curriculum in secondary school. They should also be useful to people who practise vocational and educational guidance to help students to make their choices before entering secondary school.
