This is a research project on energy law in Europe, especially relating to renewable energy and the latest legislative acts from the European Union on this field.
The first part of the thesis concerns the Union and the Union's history in energy matters. After this it is given an introduction to the Climate Change Package and the Third Energy Package, both of 2009, and especially on the New Renewable Energy Directive.
The second part is about Norway, and gives a description on the law on energy. This part is especially centered around the changes the legislation after joining the EEA Agreement, and implementing relevant legislative acts from the Union through this Agreement.
Lastly the subject is Iceland, and the law on the field of energy in this State and the special challenges Iceland faces. The focus is also leaned towards the possible accession of Iceland to the Union.
Both Norway and Iceland are world leaders in the use of renewable energy, and the thesis tries to compare the States when it comes to the legal frames on renewable energy.
