Titill:
  • Rými vinnustofunnar
  • Titill er á ensku The Studio´s Space

Tekist var á við verkefnið innan frá; bottom-up. Samfélagið þarf á vinnu listamanna að halda til þess að geta þróast og þroskast sem menningarlegt nútímaþjóðfélag.

The aim of this project is to demonstrate the importance of space and privacy in the workshop. For a studio to exist there needs to be an understanding in the society of the importance of the privacy that the studio provides for creation and work. It is important to protect the privacy of artists to enable them to act work creatively within the community because its worth, its cultural capital, is socially important. The cultural value does not always seem to be as clear to distinct as monetary value, but it is based on other forms of wealth that have formative power and present one of the foundations of society. Wealth can also be divided into several categories. Various philosophical and ontological theories and metaphors of space, value, power and distinction from various philosophers and sociologists are presented as an argument for this importance.
Results corresponding to the methods of grounded theory are based on themes that were extracted from the data. Because of the various and individual theme of the material, the study does not a lead to a single outcome, but rather as in ethnographic research, seeks to identify and interpret patterns within the group.
The study is based on interviews with eight artists conducted in their studios. It is based on qualitative methodology; grounded theory, ethnographical research methods and induction and social constructivism.
In the discussion section, the main results are reviewed, concluding that that it seems to have been possible to create a new understanding of the importance of the studio and highlighting that it not only concerns the actual space but many multi-layered spaces.; focusing on the project from within; bottom-up. The society needs the work of artists in order to evolve and develop as modern and cultural society.
