Um 15 prósentum nemenda þykir tími sinn í grunnskóla ekki skemmtilegur, þeir upplifa sig margir hverjir sjaldan eða aldrei örugga í skólanum (Umboðsmaður barna, 2010, bls. 37). Þessi 15 prósent þykir höfundi 15 prósentum of mikið. Mikilvægt er að koma til móts við nemendur sem ekki líður vel með til dæmis kennsluaðferðum sem henta þeim. Engin ein kennsluaðferð hentar öllum nemendum. Ritgerðin fjallar um leik sem kennsluaðferð og tekin eru allnokkur dæmi um leiki sem gætu hentað í kennslu í grunnskólum. Í ritgerðinni verður hugtakið leikur skoðað og hvað felst í því sérstaklega í samhengi grunnskólans. Fjallað er um hvernig sýn manna á leikinn hefur breyst í gegnum tíð og tíma og gerð grein fyrir þroskaþáttum sem eflast í leik. Einnig er fjallað um hvað nám er og hvort nám geti átt sér stað í gegnum leik. Fjallað er um hvernig hægt er að brúa bilið á milli leikskóla og grunnskóla og yfirlit ýmiss konar leikja sem hægt er að nota á árangursríkan hátt í kennslu.
Í ritgerðinni er leitast við að svara eftirfarandi rannsóknarspurningu: Getur leikur nýst sem kennsluaðferð í grunnskóla? Ef svo er, hvernig?
About fifteen percent of students do not enjoy their time at primary school and further more seldom or never feel safe at school. (Umboðsmaður barna, 2010, bls. 37). The writer of this
essay feels that this number is fifteen percent too much. It is important to approach all children with suitable teaching methods. No single approach suits every student. This essay deals with play through games as a teaching method and a number of suitable games, for primary teaching, are presented. In the essay play is dwelt on and the meaning it has in relation with the primary school and education. The change in peoples’ perspective of play over the years will be discussed and what developmental factors specially can be strengthen through play and games. The author discusses the concept learning and the question whether learning can take place through educational games and play. What has been conisderd a gap
between the playschool and primary school is dealt with and how it might be addressed. In the last part of this essey an overview of various games that others have deemd success in relation to teaching are presented.
In this essay an attempt is made to answer the following research question: Can play/games be used as a teaching method in primary schools. If so, then in what way?
