Titill:
  • Mikilvægi sköpunar í kennsluháttum : samþætting í verk- og listgreinum
  • Samþætt verkefni í verk- og listgreinum þar sem þjóðsagan fær líf : kennsluskipulag og hugmyndir
Námsstig:
  • Meistara

    The importance of creative teaching
When one looks for new solutions in the school environment, researchand
development projects are created. As in any other field
developmental projects in the school environment can lead to
improvements and new approaches to education and the way things are
done in the general school environment.
As a teacher I have felt that teachers in art and craftsmanship in
Hjallaskóli in Kópavogur have shown significant results in improving and
developing their approach to teaching in order to ensure that pupils enjoy
their work through a collaborative approach to teaching. Therefore I felt
that studying their approach and collaboration would be an ideal study as
well as studying the impact that this has on both students and the general
    school environment.
In this research I study the work of teachers in a school which has
always emphasized art and craftsmanship and I have benefitted and
gained assistance from the teachers in art and craftsmanship.
In the past four years art has been a fixed part of the school calendar in
classes 1–7 in Hjallaskóli which is unfortunately not common in Icelandic
schools and is not a part of the main artillery. In this research project I
have specifically studied grades 2 and 3 in school year 2009–2010. I try to
describe the collaborative effort of teachers in art and craftsmanship in
these classes. This has turned out to be a very interesting project using the
Icelandic tales as a foundation for collaboration and creativity. When
looking at this closely the students’ part is not less important to monitor
    than the teachers.
In this research I try to answer the following:
 Is in general creative teaching and various approaches to
teaching the main characteristics of teachers and students
    followed in this research?
 What are the main characteristics of those teachers in art and
    craftsmanship?
 What is the nature of their collaboration?
 Does their collaboration affect the students´ learning in other
    subjects?
This research is a collaborative action research. In this research,
teachers´ meetings and talks have been registered as well as interviews
and questionnaires with teachers, students and parents. Pictures from the
field are used to give insight into the work and atmosphere. The research
is also backed with a guideline book which can be used as a basis for a
collaborative effort in art and craftsmanship teaching. Additionally, this
project is supported by a video which presents the results of the student
    collaborative effort in an exhibition.
The main results show that both teachers and students are very happy
in their collaborative work. Emphasis on collaboration and teamwork,
which is not so common in art and craftsmanship teaching, appears to
have positive effects on the group. Parents are also positive as is shown in
their response to questionnaires, comments and visits. Teachers show
through their work and work processes all main aspects of creative
teaching. Teachers find strength in the collaborative efforts and intend to
    continue with further collaboration.
