The focus of this study was to assess the level of cooperation between preschool managers and child welfare committees, from the preschool managers perspective. The aim was to examine whether the number of child welfare reports from preschool managers would increase with greater knowledge on child abuse and neglect, experience or with a greater degree of cooperation with the child welfare committees. Furthermore this study aims to provide a better insight into how preschool managers define their roles and obligations with child welfare committees. The research design was quantitative and data collection was done via questionnaire that was sent to all of the preschool managers of the country. Participation in the study was 76%. The main results of this study was that with increased knowledge on the symptoms of abuse and neglect of children, along with greater insight into the roles and activities of child welfare committees, preschool managers were more likely to inform cases to child welfare committees. It seems that job experience and perceived attitude of preschool managers towards the child welfare committees had no effect on the number of reports filed to the child welfare committees. The study indicates that most preschool managers would like increased cooperation with the child welfare committees. Furthermore, the results indicate that it is relatively uncommon for preschools to be in cooperation with child welfare committees. Upon further examination the results revealed that varying level of cooperation had no effect on the number of cases informed to the child welfare committees.
Keywords: preschools, child protection, cooperation, reports to child welfare committees
