Titill:
  • Listdanssýning í Rafstöðinni við Elliðaárdal : tilurð verksins AMPERE ásamt upplifun nemenda og samspili þeirra við verkið
Námsstig:
  • Meistara

The master's project is twofold. On the one hand, it consists of an original dance composition and on the other of this research thesis. The thesis gives an insight into the conception of the work AMPERE and sheds light onto the way the students experience and interact with the work. An emphasis was placed on arousing the student's interest, curiosity, and understanding of the art of dance, as well as exploring how the students experienced the dance work and expressed themselves about it on their own prerequisites. The methodology of the project is in the spirit of the new education policy by which the Ministry of Culture and Education forms its basis. The Primary School Main Curriculum places the creative ways and needs of the students in the foreground. The project is based on art criticism where the students apply critical methods in order to process their experience. This is a qualitative research as its basis is formed by the dance work AMPERE, the students' projects, the visions of the students and teachers on the scene, as well as interviews and photographs. The research process revealed a multifarious and complex interpretation process which is primarily observed in terms of the theories of Roland Barthes on the "Death of the Author", theories on Reception Theory, Dewey's educational theory and Gardner's theory on multiple intelligences.
The projects of the students indicate a creative sense of imagination and a multifarious interpretation, as well as a critical and creative way of thinking. In the projects and attitudes it is possible to detect a variety of standpoints and viewpoints on the dance work. The project gave rise to discussions among the teachers and school managers on the art of dance with regard to new possibilities in education.
The project gives an idea of the possibilities of using dance works as a mainspring of creative, critical and individual teaching methods in education.
