Self-regulation is a wide concept and has been defined as the ability to control, change or restrain own thoughts, emotions and behavior in accordance with approriate conditions. The aim of this study was to use a new behavior rating scale about control and executive function in children. The rating scale consists of 185 positively formulated items. The main interest was to see if answers to items would approach normal distribution when asked about normal behaviour and development in children. Deviations from normal behaviour and development would appear as extreme values on the spectrum. The study was conducted through the Internet and answers arrived from 133 mothers who have children from 3 to 8 years old. Principal axis factor analyses were conducted and the factor structure and psychometric properties of the scale were examined. Initially the list included 11 factors, two factors did not meet the criteria for factor analysis and three factors were put together to form a single factor (emotional regulation). Global executive composite was conducted for each factor and principal axis factoring conducted. Global executive composite loaded on five factors and it was examined if any items would relate to other items in another factor. Factor one included items that describe energy and planning, factor two included items that describe caution, factor three included items that described behavior regulation, factor four included items that described attention and emotional regulation and factor five included items that described cognitive control. Reliability and communalities was acceptable. The correlation between factors was low and not always significant. This is the first time the scale is tested and results show that it is possible to create items that describe normal behavior and development in children and answers to the items approached normal distribution.
