Fræðilegur rammi ritgerðararinnar er fyrst of fremst byggður á kenningum Pierre Bourdieus um habitus og kenningum Michael Jacksons um at home in the world.

This essay discusses the sensual experiences of the individual, more precisely how individuals experience and situate themselves in their environment through their senses, i.e. through their skin. Therefore the main focus will be to look at the skin and the sensations that it captures. In order to look at the subject matter from a holistic perspective, both anthropological and biological perspectives are applied in this study.
The theoretical framework of the essay is first and foremost built on Pierre Bourdieus´ theories on habitus and Michael Jacksons´ theories on at home in the world. With them an attempt will be made to provide the reader with an understanding of how sensations enable individuals to find and situate themselves in the world that they live in, in society or the body. A look will be taken at the cultural situatedeness of sensations and how individuals in different societies use their senses to find and sense themselves where they are. In addition a look will be taken at Medical anthropological research on culturally situated medical practices. This essay will demonstrate how unconventional treatments and touch treatment can help individuals in sensing themselves and to feel the life energy that drives the individual on a daily basis.
