  • Þessi rannsókn er starfendarannsókn sem hefur það að markmiði að skoða hvernig hugmyndir barna birtast í skapandi starfi, hvernig þau þróa þær með félögum og hvernig kennarinn styður við það ferli. Í ljósi nýrra viðhorfa til náms var ætlunin að endurskoða starfshætti mína og leitast við að styðja börnin í að þróa eigin hugmyndir. Í Reggio Emilia á Ítalíu hefur þróast leik¬skólastarf sem byggir á því að hlusta eftir hugmyndum og kenningum barna í starfi. Þar er notast við skráningar (e. docu¬mentation) til að skoða hvernig börn læra, hvernig þau þróa hugmyndir sínar og tilgátur og hvernig leik¬skóla¬kennarar styðja við hugmyndir þeirra og gera nám þeirra sýnilegt. Í rannsókninni studdist ég við skráningu í þeim tilgangi að safna og þróa þau gögn sem lágu til grundvallar.
Ég hóf rannsóknina á því að fylgjast með og skrá samskipti og leik barnanna. Á grundvelli þeirra gagna kom ég af stað vinnuferli (e. project) þar sem ég skráði samræður og hugmyndir barnanna og bar saman við teikningar og verk sem unnin voru í vinnustundum. Aðferðafræðin byggðist á spíralferli þar sem ég túlkaði skráningarnar og greindi gögnin jafnóðum og brást við þeim í ljósi kenninga félagslegrar hugsmíðahyggju um það hvernig börn byggja upp þekkingu. Einnig studdist ég við hugmyndir John Dewey og Lev Vygotstky um tengsl leiks og náms sem byggja á því að leikur eða skapandi atferli er leið barna til að átta sig á merkingu hluta.
Niðurstöður rannsóknarinnar sýndu að samræður og samskipti, ásamt skap¬andi starfi og leik, var leið sem börnin notuðu við að þróa hugmyndir sínar. Það að koma hugmyndum sínum í orð eða sjónrænt form, að þurfa að rökstyðja skoðanir sínar, var þeim hjálp við að skýra betur eigin hugsanir og hugmyndir og vinir og félagar voru mikilvægir í því ferli. Skráningin reyndist gott verkfæri við að ígrunda mína kennsluhætti og skoða hvernig ég gæti stutt við nám þeirra.

„I don´t know it, but I shall think it“
To use documentation as a tool to look at preschool children´s ideas.
This study is an action research with the main goal to see how children´s ideas or theories appear in creative work, how they develop them with friends and how the teacher can support the process. In the light of new approach to education I will review my practice and try to support children in developing their own theories. Preschools in Reggio Emilia in Italy has developed a way to listen to children´s ideas and theories. They use documentation to see how children learn, how they develop their ideas and theories and to see how the preschoolteachers support their ideas and make their learning visible. In the research, documentation was used to collect and develop the data which it is based on.
I began my research by looking at and document children´s communi-cation and play. I used the data to build up a project where I continued to document children´s communication and theories and compare with drawings and other things from group sessions. The methodalogy was a spiral process in which I interpreted the documentation and analyzed the data simultaneously and responded to based on the ideas of the social constructivist theory of how children build their knowledge. In the interpretations I also looked at the ideas of John Dewey and Lev Vygotstky on the relationship between play and learning which are based on the idea that play or creativity is a way that children use to realize the meaning of things.
The research showed that children used dialogue, communication, creative work and play to develop their theories. When they put them in words or visual form and had to justify their views, they clarified their own thought and ideas. Friends proved to bee very important. The docu-mentation was a good tool to analyze my teaching and see how I could support children in their learning.
