  • Í þessari rannsókn mun ég fjalla um knattspyrnu á Íslandi sem að ég mun skoða út frá skiptingu frétta eftir kynjum. Tölurnar sem að fengust útúr rannsókninni á fréttunum bar ég saman við bæði iðkendatölur og mætingatölur á leiki í deildinni. Rannsóknin náði yfir tímabilið frá 15. júlí 2014 til 15. ágúst 2014. Miðlarnir sem skoðaðir voru í rannsókninni voru Morgunblaðið og vefsíðan Fótbolti.net. Fjölmargar rannsóknir á hlutfalli kynja í fjölmiðlum á Íslandi hafa verið gerðar en engin, svo vitað sé, á knattspyrnuumfjöllun í samhengi við þann áhuga sem deildinni er sýnt.
Niðurstöður rannsóknarinnar sýndu að umfjöllun miðlanna um Pepsí deildir karla og kvenna eru í um það bil 70% tilfella um karla og 30% kvenna. Áhorfendadreifing hópsins sem sækir leiki liðanna í þessum deildum sýndi að 90% þeirra sem sækir leiki fer á leiki í Pepsí deild karla. Iðkendatölur sýndu jafnframt að iðkendur í knattspyrnu á Íslandi eru í um 68% tilfella karlmenn.
Notast var við megindlegar rannsóknaraðferðir við gerð þessarar rannsóknar.

In this study I look at football in Iceland with regard to news coverage of men’s football compared to women’s football. Results from the study are compared to practitioner numbers and attendance data from the women’s Premier League in Iceland. The study covers the period between the 15th of July 2014 to the 15th of August 2014. The media I looked at in the study are the newspaper Morgunblaðið and the website Fotbolti.net. Many studies have been conducted on the gender ratio in news coverage in the Icelandic media but none, as known, on football coverage in context with the interest shown in the league.
Results of the study show that media coverage on the man’s and women’s Premier Leagues is about the men’s league about 70% of the time and about the women’s league about 30% of the time. Attendance distribution shows that 90% of people that go to football games in Iceland got to games in the men’s Premier league. Practitioners numbers also showed that out of all football practitioners in Iceland, about 68% are male.
This study was conducted with a quantitative research method.
