Degree:

Abstract:
  • Abstract is in Icelandic

This a nal year dissertation in Computer Science at the University of Akureyri. It
is a part of a larger project that aims to build a "Workstation for Full Wave Form
Acoustic Logging", collaborative work between ÍSOR and the University of Akureyri.
This project looks at the problems solved by using a sonic probe to investigate
boreholes, such as cement bond logging to detect aws in borehole casing. It further
provides detailed analysis of problems related with data gathering, information
    storage and performance.
A prototype and two test programs where created to evaluate design decisions
and runtime of the workstation. The result of this evaluation is that Java is almost
as fast as C++ in running the semblance function and that the data processing
technique must manage intermediate results carefully, since they can become very
    large.
