"Please read me a story!" The importance of picture books

Abstract

This thesis is an academic part of a children’s book that the author translated, called See Inside Planet Earth. It discusses the importance of picture books in a child’s life and the impact picture books have on many aspects of their life. Children who read for pleasure have been proven to be more successful in their academic work that those who do not, and that reading helps with the child’s social and emotional advantages. Picture books also help children with textual awareness and grammar as they get the children’s attention so they read more then they might have intended to in the beginning.
