Abstract:
  • Abstract is in Icelandic

  • My final project is educational material for teaching printmaking, as I believe there are not many sources available here in Iceland.
In the first part of the paper I discuss the material from a pedagogical point of view which is based on the value of increasing skills in artistic practice and the pedagogical benefits of having educational material in printmaking. I discuss the possibility of using these skills for interdisciplinary connections. It will also be demonstrated, how it is possible to connect the educational material with other disciplines.
Several scholars have done research and written about arts education and how to support the development of the student’s creative mind and the numerous benefits they gain through arts education. These benefits can help them in many ways, not only in the particular subject, but also when formal schooling is over.
The scholar and philosopher, John Dewey (1859-1952) has discussed widely education and school matters, and places a strong emphasise on “hands on” teaching methods and their importance. “learning by doing” and to nourish the harmony between the practical and theorhetical.
The philosophy of Elliot W. Eisner (1933) who is an American education specialist is in many ways similar to the writings of Dewey, and I have looked to their experience and educational vision.
The second part of the paper is a textbook, which is divided into discussion on printmaking, the history and development of printmaking in Iceland, it’s branches and main methods.
At the end, I give examples of assignments in printmaking and educational processes.
