  • The goal of this research was to gain an insight into the communication between two governmental bodies that both deal with the welfare of children. Firstly, the attitude of staff at Child Protective Services and that of Health Visitors was scrutinised with regards to mutual collaboration Secondly, in order to gain insight into communication between these organisations with relation to child protection issues as reported by Health Visitors to Child Protective Services. There, the goal was to investigate if there were any hindrances to collaboration and what, if any, ways staff saw to improve communication even further. This research was done using a Mixed Methods Design; including some qualitative interviews as well as content analysis. Interviewees were six in total, three staff at Child Protective Services, one social worker at a local health clinic and two nurses based at a local health clinic as Health Visitors. Content analysis was also conducted on reports received at the Reykjavik Child Protective Services from Health Visitors in 2013, for children aged 0-5 years. The conclusion of this analysis was that collaboration between Child Protective Services and Health Visitors is minimal and mainly consisted of Health Visitors providing information to Child Protective Services when requested in the process of an investigation. Interviewees felt that increased collaboration was required between Child Protective Services and Health Visitors. It was also found that few reports were received from Health Visitors at Child Protective Services.
Key Words: Child Protective Services, Health Visitors, collaboration, child maltreatment.
