Markmið rannsóknarinnar var að skoða tengsl þess að vera þolandi kynferðislegs ofbeldis og slagsmála meðal unglinga. Þá var einnig skoðað hvort samskipti unglinga við foreldra væri áhrifaþáttur á tengsl kynferðislegs ofbeldis og slagsmála. Rannsóknin byggði á fyrirliggjandi gögnum íslenska hluta alþjóðlegu rannsóknarinnar Heilsa og lífskjör skólanema (Health behavior in School-aged Children: HBSC) sem fengust úr fyrirlögn í febrúar 2014. Rannsóknin er framkvæmd á fjögurra ára fresti fyrir tilstuðlan Alþjóðaheilbrigðismálastofnunarinnar (WHO). Staðlaðir spurningalistar voru lagðir fyrir alla nemendur í sjötta, áttunda og 10. bekk í grunnskólum landsins en rannsóknin takmarkast við svör nemenda í 10 bekk, alls 3.618 nemendur. Niðurstöður rannsóknarinnar sýndu að 27,7% þeirra sem voru þolendur kynferðislegs ofbeldis lentu í slagsmálum á móti 14% þeirra sem ekki voru þolendur χ2(1) = 3.156, p = .010. Unglingar sem voru þolendur mjög grófs kynferðislegs ofbeldis oft lentu nær þrisvar sinnum oftar í slagsmálum en þeir sem voru þolendur grófs kynferðislegs ofbeldis einu sinni. Drengir sem hafa verið þolendur kynferðislegs ofbeldis lenda oftar í slagsmálum 38,9%, χ2(1) = 25.427, p = .001, en stúlkur sem hafa verið þolendur kynferðislegs ofbeldis 22,3%, χ2(1) = 82, 921, p = .001. Samskipti innan fjölskyldu var áhrifaþáttur á fylgni kynferðislegs ofbeldis og slagsmála: Góð samskipti rs(2668) = -,077,p = .001: Slæm samskipti rs(484) = -.288, p =.001.

The objective of the study was to examine if there was a relationship between sexual abuse and physical fighting among teenagers, and how the relationship manifests itself. Furthermore it was examined if communication within the family of the abused teenagers could be an effect variable on the relationship between child sexual abuse and physical fighting. The research was based on Icelandic part of the international study Health behavior in School-Aged Children (HBSC) obtained from the administration in February 2014. The study is conducted every four years in conjunction with the World Health Organization (WHO). Standard questionnaires were administered to all students born 1998, age 15, in 10th grade elementary school. A total of 3.618 students participated in the research. The results showed that 27.7% of those who were victims of sexual abuse were involved in physical fighting compared to 14% who were not victims χ2 (1) = 3,156, p = .010. Teenagers who were victims of very coarse sexual abuse and repeatedly were up to three times more often involved in physical fight then those who experienced coarse sexual abuse only once. Teenage boys who have been victims of sexual abuse encounter more frequently in physical fighting 38.9%, χ2 (1) = 25,427, p = .001, then girls who have been victims of sexual abuse, 22.3%, χ2 (1) = 82, 921, p = .001. Communication within the family was a factor in the correlation between sexual abuse and physical fighting: Good communication, rs (2668) = -, 077, p=.001; poor communication rs (484) = -.288, p =.001.
