  • The flipped classroom method in teaching has gained popularity and is widely used in all levels of the education system in different countries. The paper presents the method and discusses different aspects of its usefulness in project management teaching and training. Data accumulation is based on literature search and interviews with teachers in a master of project management program in a European university. Similarly, students in the same program are interviewed to assess their viewpoints and experience when they compare the flipped classroom method with more conventional teaching methods. Finally a simple comparative study is presented where the outcome of an international certification examination is compared for two student groups, where the flipped classroom method was applied for one group but not for the other group.
The flipped classroom method has turned out to be a widely used method for teaching and learning project management. Students seem to be more familiar with the method than teachers and are eager to explore the new methodology. 60% of students using the flipped classroom method claim that the method has assisted them in preparing for the certification exam.
The group that used the flipped classroom method turned out to score higher on the international certification exam as opposed to the group that did not use the method.
