Smíði hljóðfæra og rafræns búnaðar til tónsköpunar á unglingastigi grunnskóla

Abstract

Tilgangur þessa verkefnis er að auðga námsefnaframboð í námsgreininni hönnun og smíði á unglingastigi grunnskóla. Það á að samstilla hug og hönd, þroska handverksleikni og skapandi hugsun nemenda. Verkefnið samanstendur af verkefnasafni og fræðilegri greinargerð. Verkefnasafnið sem ætlað er kennurum, byggir á efnislegum tilraunum höfundar í hljóðfæragerð og tónlistartengdum verkefnum svo sem smíði bjögunarfetils, tónlistarsköpun, samspili og hljóðupptöku. Auk þess sótti höfundur efnistök úr bókum, fræðigreinum, á Netinu og á vettvangi hjá starfandi grunnskólakennurum og hljóðfærasmið. Undirliggjandi áhrifaþættir verkefnisins eru tónlist í víðum skilningi, tónlistarmenning unglinga, og þær framfarir sem orðið hafa í þróun og aðgengi að stafrænni hljóðupptökutækni. Áhersla er lögð á nýtingu fjölbreytts efniviðar þar sem tré, málmur og rafrænir íhlutir spila stóran sess en áhersla er á rafvæðingu og notkun þeirra hljóðfæra sem smíðuð eru. Í verkefnasafninu er að finna upplýsingar um notkun þess, hentugar kennsluleiðir, verkefnalýsingar og ýmis fróðleikur sem tengist verkefnunum. Það má nota sem grunn að útfærslu valáfanga fyrir hönnun og smíði fyrir unglingastig grunnskóla eða til námskeiðshalds. Einnig má nýta námsefnið í samþættingu námsgreina í hönnun og smíði, tónmennt, sviðslistum, íslensku eða annarri tungumálakennslu, svo dæmi séu tekin.Í greinargerðinni og námsefninu er fjallað um þau fræði og vísindi sem höfundur byggir þróun og hönnun verkefnasafnsins á. Þar má nefna upphaf tónsköpunar og hljóðfæragerðar og helstu þætti hljóðmyndunarfræði. Fjallað er um áherslur aðalnámskrár grunnskóla sem tengjast hönnun og smíði, svo sem grunnþætti menntunar. Howard Gardner og fjölgreindarkenningu hans eru gerð skil ásamt John Dewey og kenningum hans um nám og kennslu, svo eitthvað sé nefnt. Greinargerðin kemur einnig inn á mikilvægi námsmats, fjölbreyttra kennsluaðferða og kveikju við kennslu verkefnasafnsins og gildi þess fyrir alhliða þroska nemenda.

The purpose of this study is to enrich Design and Craft education in Icelandic lower secondary school. The pedagogical aims are to harmonize the students mind and body and to enhance their craft skills and creative thinking. The project collection is designed for teachers inside the area of Design and Craft education that want to give their students opportunities to make musical instruments and electronic devices and use them to create music. The collection is based on the author’s experiments’ and experience from making musical instrument and related electronic devices, such as pickups and distortion pedals. Moreover, it is based on the author’s experiences using untraditional music instruments for composing, playing and recording music. During the development work the author used different information sources to enable the work such as books, thesis, and websites. He also visited elementary school teachers working with musical instruments making and a luthier. The project collection underlines the importance for utilizing diverse materials such as wood, metal and acrylic. It also provides accessible information about making and playing the instruments. The projects descriptions can be used as ideas for students developing their own design and making inside the area of Design and Craft education. It can also be used in a cross curricular context, by working with other subjects, such as music, mathematic and textile.In the thesis, the theoretical background of each project is discussed such as physical principles and the interrelations between the material usages and the sound quality in the context of the design. In addition, there is also discussion about how the undertakings can meet the requirement of the National Curriculum for Design and Craft education. Finally, the author mentions pedagogical theories that could support such teaching as Gardner´s theory of multiple intelligences along with John Dewey philosophy of experience and education.
