This essay explores gender roles in relation to children and children’s literature. It aims to show how sexism, in the form of stereotypical gender roles, has been remarkably observable in children’s books. Additionally, it demonstrates how children would benefit much more from being exposed to diverse, positive and capable characters of both genders in their reading materials.
