Abstract:
  • Abstract is in Icelandic

Í hinum hnattræna heimi er flæði talið vera megineinkenni samtímans. Það eru þó einnig til staðar mörk, þar af leiðandi þarf að skoða flæði í samhengi við mörk. Síðastliðna tvo áratugi hefur aukið flæði fólks gert vart við sig frá suður- í norðuráttina. Innflytjendur sækja í auknum mæli eftir betri lífstækifærum og straumur flóttafólks fer síaukandi í von um öruggt skjól og betri lífsafkomu í Evrópu. Í kjölfarið hefur umfjöllun um innflytjendur, flóttafólk og fjölmenningarleg samfélög verið áberandi í Evrópu. Gjarnan má sjá að menningarhugtakið hefur verið í sviðsljósi umræðunnar. Hugmyndafræði margra þjóðríkja innan Evrópu gerir ráð fyrir einsleitri menningu innan landamæra. Það verður hinsvegar sífellt erfiðara að viðhalda einsleitri menningu í hinum hnattvædda heimi. Innan mannfræðinnar hefur menningarhugtakið tekið breytingum í samræmi við félagslegar breytingar og þróun námsgreinarinnar. Beint verður sjónum að því hvernig menningarhugtakið tekur á sig mynd í hnattrænum heimi sem samanstendur af bæði flæði og mörkum. Flæði er annars vegar ferli fólksflutninga, sér í lagi á meðal innflytjenda og flóttafólks. Mörk hins vegar eru þjóðríki, stefnumál og aðlögunarferli sem að tekin eru fyrir í innflytjendamálum. Að lokum verður fjölmenning tekin til skoðunar í samhengi við sjónarhorn mannfræðinga á menningarhugtakinu.

  • In a globalized world flow is considered to be the main characteristic in the contemporary world. As characteristic to this globalized world are also borders, flow therefore needs to be examined in relation to borders. Over the last two decades migration from the south to the north has increased. Immigrants seek for better opportunities and refugees seek for safety and a better life. This has led to a wide discussion of immigrants, refugees and multicultural societies within Europe. In the discussion the concept of culture has been noticeable. The ideologies of many nation states within Europe are based on homogeneous culture within their borders. On the other hand in a globalized world it becomes more difficult maintain these distinctions of the nation states as homogeneous and culturally bonded. Within anthropology the culture concept has changed in conjunction with social changes and development of discipline. The culture concept will be explored in the context of the flows and borders in a globalized world. Flows include migration among immigrants and refugees. Borders on the other hand includes the state and state-sponsored integration policies concerning migration. This thesis will conclude by taking into consideration multiculturalism from the point of view of the culture concept as formulated within anthropology.
