Á sömu leið: Samvinna heimilis og skóla í lestrarnámi barna

Abstract

Lokaritgerð þessi er hluti B.Ed prófs við kennaradeild Háskólans á Akureyri vorið 2017. Ritgerðin fjallar um hvernig hægt er að styðja við nemendur í lestrarnámi með samvinnu heimilis og skóla. Að kennarar og foreldrar þurfi að vinna saman að lestrarnámi barna og stefna að sömu markmiðum. Bæði kennarar og foreldrar þurfa að vera meðvitaðir um sína ábyrgð til þess að lestrarnámið gangi sem best fyrir sig. Í kafla tvö er fjallað um hugtökin læsi og lestur, einnig er farið í lesfimi, orðaforða, lesskilning og ritun. Hugtakið læsi vísar til þess að þættir tungumálsins séu samofnir og styðji hver annan en lestur vísar í þegar lesandi les texta og notar til þess það tungumál sem hann kann. Í þriðja kafla er talað um tileinkun læsis og skoðað er bernskulæsi, áhrif umhverfisþátta og tilgangur lestrarnáms. Bernskulæsi er sú færni, kunnátta og viðhorf sem þroskast áður en hið eignlega lestrarnám hefst. Lestrarfærni er undirstaða alls náms og góð lestrarfærni auðveldar þátttöku í samfélaginu. Læsisríkt umhverfi er mikilvægt til að auðvelda börnum læsi og læsisvitund. Fjórði kafli er um samvinnu heimilis og skóla, hvert er hlutverk foreldra og hvaða leiðir þeir geta farið til að aðstoða börn sín í náminu og mikilvægi þess að skólinn komi til móts við alla foreldra á jafnréttisgrundvelli. Farið er í tilgang heimalesturs og lestrarhvetjandi leiðir skoðaðar sem bæði foreldrar og kennarar geta nýtt sér. Fram kemur í ritgerðinni að skiptar skoðanir eru um heimanám barna en allir eru sammála um mikilvægi heimalesturs. Það er barninu fyrir bestu að ná tökum á lestrinum eins fljótt og auðið er vegna þess að námið verður erfiðara þegar á líður og kröfur um lestur og skilning verða meiri. Þegar allt kemur til alls er mikilvægt að allir séu á sömu leið og samvinna sé á milli heimilis og skóla.

This thesis is towards a B.Ed. degree from the Faculty of Education at the University of Akureyri in spring 2017. It discusses ways in which to support students who are learning to read by way of co-operation between the school and the home, i.e. teachers and parents must work together and have the same goals when it comes to the literacy of children. Teachers and parents alike must be aware of their responsibility in order to achieve the best results. Section 2 contains a discussion of the terms literacy and reading, along with a discussion of fluency, vocabulary, reading comprehension and writing. The term literacy refers to aspects of language that are interwoven and support each other, while reading refers to the act of reading a text, using the language with which the reader is familiar. Section 3 discusses the acquisition of literacy, the impact of environmental factors and the purpose of learning to read. Emergent literacy refers to the skills and attitudes that develop before the beginning of a formal reading curriculum. A literacy environment is the basis of all education, and advanced reading skills facilitate participation in society. A literacy environment is important in order to encourage literacy and literacy awareness in children. Section 4 discusses the co-operation between the school and the home, the role of parents, ways in which they can support children in their education and the importance of the school treating all parents equally. The purpose of home reading is examined, as are methods to encourage reading that both parents and teachers can utilise. It is noted in the thesis that there is no consensus on the value of homework assignments for children, but everyone agrees that home reading is important. It is best for children to become literate as soon as possible, as their studies will become increasingly difficult and more requirements for reading and comprehension will be made. In the end, it is important for everyone to be on the same page and for the home and the school to work together.
