Abstract:
  • Abstract is in Icelandic

Fræðigrunnur rannsóknar byggir m.a. á gerendanetskenningu Latour (e. actor-network theory), og kenningum Edensor og Bærenholdt um sviðsetningu og iðkun í ferðaþjónustu. Aðferðafræðin byggir á skyn- og sjónrænni etnógrafíu (e. sensory and visual ethnography) og kenningu Goffman um sjálfið í félagslegum samskiptum (e. theory of self presentation). Sérstaklega verður horft til þeirra breytinga sem orðið hafa í ferðaþjónustu síðustu tvo áratugina og tengjast þátttöku ferðamanna, upplifun þeirra og sköpun.
Niðurstöður benda til þess að ferðamenn sem hingað koma tjái upplifun sína af landinu á afar fjölbreyttan hátt. Margt gefur til kynna að þeir sækist eftir persónulegum tengslum við heimamenn og að vera þátttakendur í sköpun eigin áfangastaða. Niðurstöður gefa vísbendingar um áhuga og væntingar ferðamanna sem hugsanlega gagnast þeim sem áhuga hafa á að efla hér skapandi ferðaþjónustu.

  • The aim of the following study is to explore the experiences of tourists who come to Iceland by focusing on what the tourists find to be an experience in Iceland and how they express those findings by participating in an Icelandic art performance. Furthermore, can a knowledge be drawn from the experience.
The study is largely based on an art performance that took place in Reykjavik in 2017, involving 75 tourists who expressed their experiences of Iceland on an Icelandic paper flag which they afterwards nailed to a stick and presented. Photographs and videos were also used in the field. A comparable performance took place 18 years ago, and its results are partly compared to the subsequent performance. The theoretical framework is based on Latour´s actor-network theory , as well as the work of Edensor and Bærenholdt, amongst other, on the perspective to see tourism as a form of performance. The methodology is based on sensory and visual ethnography and Goffman's theory of self presentation. Particular attention will be given to the changes that have taken place in tourism over the past two decades, related to the participation of tourists, their experience and creativity.
The results indicate that travelers that visit Iceland express their experience of the country in a very diverse way. Many suggest that tourists seek personal relationships with locals and to be participants in making their own destinations. The results indicate the interest and expectations of tourists that may benefit those interested in promoting creative tourism.
