  • Ritgerðin var unnin með það í huga að kanna upplifun foreldra þolenda eineltis af samskiptum við foreldra gerenda eineltis. Stuðst var við eigindlega rannsóknaraðferð og eru niðurstöðurnar byggðar á ellefu hálfopnum viðtölum við foreldra sem eiga börn sem hafa verið/eru lögð í einelti. Þátttakendur voru tíu mæður og einn faðir. Rannsóknarspurningin var svohljóðandi: Hver er upplifun foreldra þolenda eineltis af samskiptum við foreldra gerenda eineltis? Einnig var leitast við að fá fram hvaða skilning þátttakendur lögðu í hugtakið einelti ásamt því að kanna áhrif eineltis á líðan þeirra. Auk þess var kannað hver upplifun þátttakenda var af hlut skólans í lausn eineltismála barnanna. Meðal niðurstaðna er að þátttakendur telja einelti vera endurtekið ofbeldi. Eineltið hafði veruleg áhrif á líðan þátttakenda og í kjölfarið fundu þeir fyrir varnarleysi gagnvart ástandinu. Skólinn tók ekki nógu vel á eineltismálunum og var upplifun þeirra sú að hann teldi vandamálið frekar liggja hjá þolandanum. Þá fóru foreldrar geranda flestir í vörn og afneitun og sýndu engan vilja til að taka á málunum. Þeir töldu vandamálið gjarnan liggja hjá þolandanum en ekki þeirra börnum. Þátttakendur vildu hinsvegar að foreldrarnir ynnu í sameiningu að lausn vandans og stuðla að bættum samskiptum. Nýta má niðurstöður rannsóknarinnar til að fræða foreldra um hlutverk þeirra í eineltismálum.

    This essay was written with the purpose of examining the experience of parents of bullying victims of communicating with parents of bullying perpetrators. The qualitative research method was used and the results are based on eleven semi-structured interviews with parents who have children who have been/are being bullied. Ten mothers and one father participated. The research question was the following: What is the experience of parents of bullying victims of communicating with parents of bullying perpetrators? Efforts were made to identify the understanding of the participants of the term "bullying", as well as to study the effects of bullying on their well-being. In addition, the participants' experience of the school's role in solving the children's
    bullying issues was examined. The findings of the study suggest that the participants consider bullying to be repeated violence. The bullying had a significant impact on the participants' well-being, and subsequently they felt vulnerable in the situation. The school did not adequately address the bullying issues, and their experience was that it considered the problem mostly to be the victim's.
    Most parents of perpetrators became defensive and denied the problem and
    showed no willingness to address it. They often considered the problem to be the victim's and not their children's. The participants, however, wanted the parents to work together on solving the problem and to contribute to an improved communication. The findings indicate that good communication between parents plays a key role in preventing bullying. When the parents of perpetrators become defensive, go into denial and fail to stop the bullying, they also do not make their children realize the consequences of their behaviour for the individual who suffers it. They are likely sending their children the message that this behaviour is accepted, which causes the bullying to continue. But studies have shown that bullying has in no less measure an effect on the perpetrator. It is to be hoped that the findings of the study can be used to educate parents about their role in bullying issues.
