The article and videos purpose are to educate people on snacking and explain specifically what snacking is and what children decide to consume between meals. Research shows that short educational videos can improve a student’s academic performance, therefore the use of videos as an education tool shared through the internet is ideal. The videos should be easily understood by children from the age of 10 to 13 years old. Videos such as these have worked well in the past. Children can assist in making snacks and its perfect opportunity for them to learn about food, cleanliness and nutrition while practicing working together and learning responsibility. Snacks are often the first thing that children learn to make at home. Good advice, role models and a positive attitude towards food and meals can be intoxicating and motivate students to try new unexplored food (Livsmedelsverket 2013). Results shown in the article show that using video demonstrations works very well when specific topics are being addressed. The video demonstrations are thought to be beneficial to both the parents/guardians as well as children and is supposed to increase the variety of choice when it comes to food. The objective with the videos is to spark ideas and show how snacks can be healthy and that there’s a variety of different types snacks to choose from. There are currently no Icelandic educational videos such as these to compare to, but they should while being useful to families also be useful in teaching home economics, for example for homework purposes. The videos are 15 in total and their guiding principle is to focus on portion sizes as well as the nutritional value of each meal. The goal of this project is to assist in the making of educational videos that show how to make healthy, nutritious and easy to make snacks after school. Children often just grab anything near them, which usually is packed with energy but little to no nutritious value such as cookies and white bread, instant noodles, chips, candy and or sweet drinks. The goal is to allow children to follow simple recipes and quickly be able to make their own healthy alternative between meals snack. The videos are not only supposed to educate the children about snacking but also increase their interest and the ability to be more independent after school. This article will shed a light on the inner workings and methods used in the videomaking process as well as introducing the educational background connected to the subject. By using a storyboard and guide, working and shooting the videos became much easier. The videos were all rendered using the program iMovie.
