Útdráttur:
  • Ritgerðin fjallar um athygli og leikhús á tímum athyglishagkerfisins, en innan þess kerfis teljast fyrirtæki, miðlar og snjallmiðlar, sem dæmi Google og Facebook, sem byggja hag sinn á því að að selja öðrum fyrirtækjum aðgang að athygli notenda sinna. Ritgerðin útskýrir nokkur grunnhugtök í umfjöllun sinni um athygli, einbeitingu, útilokandi athygli (e. selective attention), milliskipta athygli (e. divided attention), dýfhygli (e. deep attention) og kvikhygli (e. hyper attention), en kenningar liggja uppi um færslu samfélagsins frá dýfhygli til kvikhyglis á síðustu áratugum. Settar eru fram niðurstöður um að ótvíræður munur sé á miðlun á list annarsvegar og miðlun meginmiðla innan athyglishagkerfisins hinsvegar þar sem innihald raddar listarinnar er aðalatriði en miðlunin sjálf, peninganna vegna, aðalatriði miðla athyglishagkerfisins. Í þessu samhengi rannsakar ritgerðin tvær sýningar, Real Magic eftir Forced Entertainment og Epic eftir Mårten Spångberg, mismunandi nálganir þeirra hvað varðar samning milli verks og áhorfenda og hvernig þau nýta sér leikhúsmiðilinn til að koma áhorfandanum í leiðslu. Heimildir vitna meðal annars í „The medium is the message“ eftir Martin McLuhan. Crogan, Patrick og Kinsley, Samuel. „Paying attention: Towards a critique of the attention economy“ eftir Patrick Crogan og Samuel Kinsley og. "Hyper and Deep Attention: The Generational Divide in Cognitive Modes" eftir N. Katherine Hayles.

  • Útdráttur er á ensku

This essay deals with attention and theatre in the era of the attention economy, within which are included companies, mediums and apps (e.g. Google and Facebook) that base their revenues in selling other companies access to the attention of their users, making their users the product. The essay explains a few basic concepts that are of relevance to the topic: concentration, selective attention, divided attention, deep attention and hyper attention. It refers to research about the general shift from deep attention to hyper attention in the recent decades. The essay concludes that there is a definite difference between the goals of art and the mediums of the attention economy, where art aims to mediate content but the mediation and consumption of the mediated is the goal in the attention economy. In this context the essay analyses two shows, Real Magic by Forced Entertainment and Epic by Mårten Spångberg, their differences in approaches in the contract between their shows and audience and how they use the medium of theatre to put the audience into trance and "trancedom“ (trance and boredom). References include amongst others "The medium is the message“ by Martin McLuhan, "Paying attention: Towards a critique of the attention economy“ by Patrick Crogan and Samuel Kinsley and "Hyper and Deep Attention: The Generational Divide in Cognitive Modes" by N. Katherine Hayles.
