Abstract:
  • Abstract is in Icelandic

Máltaka barna hefur verið fræðimönnum hugleikið viðfangsefni í langan tíma. Í þessari ritgerð verður leitast við að útskýra hvað gerir börnum kleift að tileinka sér mál, hvort máltakan sé meðfæddur eiginleiki eða lærð hegðun. Fjallað verður um máltöku sem séreinkenni mannsins og hún borin saman við tjáskiptakerfi dýra. Farið verður yfir virkni mannsheilans tengda máltöku og máltökustöðvar innan heilans útskýrðar. Farið verður yfir upphaf máltökurannsókna í sögulegu samhengi. Helstu kenningar um máltöku barna verða skoðaðar ásamt því að fjallað verður um atferlishyggju, hugræna sálfræði og félagssamskipti í tengslum við máltöku barna.
Hugmyndir og kenningar B.F. Skinner, Noam Chomsky, Jean Piaget, Lev Vygotsky og Jerome Bruner verða skoðaðar og bornar saman. Allar kenningarnar hafa eitthvað fram að færa þó þær séu um margt ólíkar, þó nýtur kenning Chomsky mest stuðnings í ljósi rannsókna. Helsta þrætueplið liggur í spurningunni hvort máltaka sé manninum meðfædd eða lærð.
Lykilorð: Máltaka barna, meðfætt máltökutæki, atferlisstefnan, hugræn sálfræði, félagssamskipti

  • Children’s language acquisition has been in the minds of scholars for a long time. In this essay we strive to explain what it is that gives children the ability to acquire language, whether language acquisition is innate or a learned behavior. Language acquisition as a special characteristic of humans will be covered and compared to the communication systems some animals possess. Functionalities of the brain that relate to language acquisition and areas that relate to language acquisition will be explained. The history and beginning of language acquisition will be covered. The main theories about language acquisition of children will be looked at. The areas of these theories are in the field of Behaviorism, Cognitive Psychology and Social interaction theory and we will look at how they relate to language acquisition of children.
The ideas and theories of B.F. Skinner, Noam Chomsky, Jean Piaget, Lev Vygotsky and Jerome Bruner will be explored and compared, all of their theories have something to offer but they all differ in some way. The main disagreement between the theories is about the nature of language acquisition, is it an innate ability of humans or is it learned.
Keywords: Children’s language acquisition, innate language device, behaviorism, cognitive psychology, social interaction theory
