  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to describe how successful dental professions have been in implementing CAD/CAM technology into their daily work. Also, to explore the trend in software and dental material usage to manufacture fixed and removable dental prosthesis.
Methods: Convenience sample was used among dental technicians and dentists in the TÍ and TFÍ associations. Data was collected using a survey with 25 questions about background, use of software, dental materials, advantages and disadvantages of CAD/CAM technique and continuing education plans. Descriptive statistics was calculated using SPSS-26 and chi-square and z-test used to test significant difference between groups (gender, age, profession). Results: Members of TÍ and TFÍ were invited to contribute to this study (N =370). Total 27% (n=101) associates participated, equal numbers of male/female took part in the study, however majority of participants were dentists, largest part were 45-54 of age, most had over 25 years of experience in their profession and the most used material among them was zirconium and emax. Results indicate increased number of the dental professions uses more often the CAD/CAM technology in their work to design and manufacture dental devices. They have positive attitude toward the technology and are more willing to invest in the technique than before. The main obstacle including CAD/CAM in dentistry and dental technology is the expense of the investment. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the use of CAD/CAM technology will continue to evolve among the dental professions, more are seeking continuing education in the field and show interest in investing in the technique. Most agree that it is necessary to educate the future dentist and dental technician in CAD/CAM techniques, because it is mandatory to have the necessary skills in the sciences to cope with the rapid change in computer aided manufacturing process in dentistry.
