Fylgja Íslendingar kenningu Kandinsky um liti og form?

Abstract

Þessi rannsókn leitaðist við að svara því hvort Íslendingar fylgi kenningu Kandinsky (1926/1947) um liti og form. Framkvæmdar voru tvær rannsóknir, byggðar á rannsóknum Chen o.fl. (2015a) og Chen o.fl. (2015b), til þess að meta það. Fyrri rannsóknin var gerð til að komast að því hvort að Íslendingar myndi almennt tengsl á milli lita og forma. 68 þátttakendur fengu það verkefni að para saman sex liti og sex form. Í seinni rannsókninni var dulið tengslapróf lagt fyrir 32 þátttakendur til að meta hvort Íslendingar fylgi kenningu Kandinsky (1926/1947) um liti og form. Notast var við tvo liti, gulan og bláan, og tvö form, hring og þríhyrning. Niðurstöður fyrri rannsóknarinnar benda til þess að Íslendingar myndi tengsl á milli lita og forma. Meðal annars var rauður líklegri til þess að vera paraður saman við þríhyrning, blár við ferning og gulur við hring. Þessar niðurstöður eru ekki í takt við kenningu Kandinsky (1926/1947). Svör þátttakenda í seinni rannsókninni voru ekki í samræmi við kenningu Kandinsky (1926/1947) og því getum við ekki ályktað að Íslendingar fylgi kenningu hans.Lykilhugtök: Kandinsky, dulið tengslapróf, lita tengsl

The present experiment sought to answer whether Kandinsky’s (1926/1947) colour and shape association could be detected among Icelandic participants. Two experiments, based on previous experiments by Chen et al. (2015a) and Chen et al. (2015b), were performed to assess this. The first experiment was intended to assess whether participants made associations between colours and shapes. 68 participants were asked to assign six different colours to six different shapes. In the second experiment 32 participants were asked to answer an Implicit Association Test in order to estimate whether they followed Kandinsky’s (1926/1947) association theory. Two colours, yellow and blue, and two shapes, circle and triangle, were used in the Implicit Association Test. The results from the first experiment showed that participants did make associations between colours and shapes, for example: red was associated to the triangle, blue to the square and yellow to the circle. These results are not in accordance with Kandinsky’s (1926/1947) theory. The participants answers from the second experiment were not in accordance with Kandinsky’s (1926/1947) theory. Therefore we can not conclude that Icelanders make the same colour and shape association as suggested by his theory.Keywords: Kandinsky, Implicit Association Test, colour association
