Abstract:
  • Darkness. This is the guiding force that led me to immerse myself in this research, titled Y. The project looks into the ideas that surround Darkness as a source of inspiration, and strays from the concept that it is an element that should be morally and ethically avoided. Y considers Darkness as something that can be creatively embraced, leading towards nature as one of its tangible manifestations - which, in practice, allowed me to experience it by building animal effigies, in the Icelandic forest of Öskjuhlíð, with rotting tree limbs, shed naturally or cut down by the forest’s caretakers. This permanent sculptural, and performative, work is part of the creation of a place of spiritual power where one can immerse themself to communicate and create with the land, as well as question the sustainability of our existence as humans within nature and the cosmos.
