Negentropic Synthesis

Abstract

I composed a long-form piece to be performed by two cellos and electronics. The cello parts are largely indeterministic and based on the performer's interpretation of instructions dictated to them via video. The parts that are deterministic are dictated to the performer via animated notation chapters in the video score. The electronic parts are mostly real-time digital audio transformations of the cello performance.This report will begin with a meditation on the themes of the piece, followed by an explanation of the compositional process and the contents of the piece. It then goes into how the live performance of the piece was realized, the lessons I took from it and how I intend to move forward with the concepts I worked with.
