The piece Serendipitous Intent by Ida Nielsen Juhl explores empirical composition, staged experiences and mechanical sound arranged by encouraging unforeseeable outcomes in the compositional process and performance of the piece.
The sound material is generated with transducers and metal plates, midi-information and motorised valves on a pipe organ, as well as through sonic experimentation with Soma’s Lyra-8 and Roland’s SH101. These recordings are manipulated and layered in a digital audio workstation.
Part of the composition is improvised during the solo performance in a curated space in front of an audience where seating arrangement, the placement of loudspeakers, and decor, are perceived as parts of a whole making up the piece.
The audience is embraced by contrasting, vibrant sounds of noise, percussive elements, as well as harmonic content that will encourage sound exploration.
