Developing teaching material : exploring in what ways the use of spiral curriculum and its elements supports teaching division in primary school
The purpose of this paper is to document the process of developing teaching material which focuses on introducing division as an operation in primary school classrooms. The material is created with elements based on the spiral curriculum. In addition to the teaching material, it will be part of an innovative mathematical learning tool that incorporates a game for students and a monitoring platform for teachers.
This paper will explain the process of designing six sequences to introduce division in the classroom. Three teachers reviewed the material with the suggested teaching plan, and their feedback will be introduced. Conclusions were made based on the teachers’ feedback, especially regarding the implementation of the teaching material in the primary school classroom. More research is needed to develop the whole unit on division.
