Útdráttur:
  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Icelandic versions of the Emetophobia Questionnaire (EmetQ-13) and the Specific Phobia of Vomiting Inventory (SPOVI), as well as their discriminating abilities. The EmetQ-13 is a 13-item self-report measure designed to assess symptoms of emetophobia, such as avoidance of cues and beliefs associated with nausea and vomiting. SPOVI is a 14-item self-report measure also designed to assess symptoms of emetophobia, such as avoidance behavior and risk monitoring. There were two groups of participants in this study, an emetophobic group with 24 participants diagnosed with emetophobia and an anxious control sample with 22 participants diagnosed with at least one anxiety disorder other than emetophobia. A diagnostic interview was conducted, and participants also answered several self-report scales. Results showed participants with emetophobia scored significantly higher than those with other anxiety disorders on both questionnaires. EmetQ-13 was found to have adequate internal consistency, while SPOVI had good internal consistency. The questionnaires correlated significantly with each other and with other related constructs. The results indicate that the psychometric properties of the Icelandic translation of EmetQ-13 and SPOVI are adequate and that they may effectively discriminate between individuals with emetophobia and those with other anxiety disorders. The findings provide support for using both EmetQ-13 and SPOVI in clinical work.
