Education and language are intertwined and depend on each other to be efficient and effective (Dube & Ncube, 2013). Most Sub-Saharan countries adopted colonial languages from Europe as their official medium of communication, English in the case of Ghana. This has compromised the quality of education in most parts of Ghana, especially in the rural areas where most students speak their native language at home. This study aims to make an assessment of the extent language (English) used as a medium of instruction has impacted on academic performance of pupils in basic schools in Kwabe-East Municipality, the challenges, and strategies to improve the system. Recommendations will be provided to strengthen the situation to enhance the effective implementation of the educational language policy system in the country concerning pupils in the basic schools.
