    Abstract
By the time children reach 6 months of age, they should be able to sleep through the night and no longer require assistance from their parents. However, 20-50% continue awakening during the night. Parents' knowledge of normal sleep and children's sleep problems is a key factor in whether a child's sleep interfering behavior is addressed and treated. No research has been published on parents' knowledge of sleep and sleep interfering behavior in Icelandic children, but other research has shown that parents' knowledge is deficient both in terms of sleeping habits and sleep interfering behavior. The present study used a nonconcurrent multiple baseline design across participants to examine the effects of an online sleep lecture on parents' knowledge about the basic elements and environmental factors of sleep and behavioral interventions. The intervention was not effective alone for parents' ability to treat their children's sleep interfering behaviors. Parental knowledge increased after the lecture. However, for three of the five participants, the parents needed further consultation. The result suggests that combination of a lecture and consultation is more effective for parents to treat their children's sleep interfering behavior. This study gives an idea of an intervention that is easy to perform, is not time-consuming, and has partial efficiency. More research is needed to
further examine what other combination can exchange the direct instruction with more group work or other indirect teaching with more quality of feedback.
