This essay examines the effects of the digital revolution on the publishing industry and the changes to Osterwalter’s Business Model Canvas the industry can expect to see. The essay finds that channels and revenue streams are most affected and the changes that can be observed there echo the changes that the music industry has gone through. In conversation with Icelandic publishers, it does become clear that the publishing industry has features that makes it different from the music industry and the physical book serves other purposes than just consumption. The codex has existed for over 3000 years and has proved to be exceptionally resilient to changes. The publishing industry, however, has changed significantly in the same time and is likely to be facing more changes with the digital revolution.
