The ViRMA multimedia analytics tool can be used to interactively browse through visual multimedia collections. In this case, users often rapidly play short segments of several different videos to understand what they contain, with an underlying goal of learning about the media collection. This usage differs from traditional video viewing, where the goal is typically to watch full videos in detail.
This project addresses a significant limitation in ViRMA’s video exploration capabilities, its inability to directly play videos, by implementing a video player within its VR environment. The video player integrates essential playback features, supports multiple players, and allows interaction with ViRMA’s existing exploration tools.
A think-aloud functionality test, with an expert tester, confirmed the workings of the implemented features and highlighted areas for further improvement. The implementation aims to take ViRMA a step further in its analysis capabilities, as the addition of a video player allows for more detailed user evaluations for various applications, such as task generation for multimedia retrieval competitions.
