This thesis delves into the multidimensional realm of sculpture, installation, and poetic space, examining the interplay between materials, physicality, and emotional resonance. Drawing from diverse artistic influences and personal experiences in physical theater and psychomotor therapy, I navigate the sensory and tactile universe of non-verbal language, where objects become words and spaces become poems. Through reflections on renowned artists
like Cecilia Vicuña and Jenny Holzer, the abstract explores the transformative power of language, both visual and textual, in shaping public discourse and individual experiences. It also addresses biases and challenges faced by female artists within the art world, advocating for inclusivity and equity. The artistic process is described as an intuitive journey, guided by the
not-yet-known, where materials serve as tools for expression and exploration. Ethical considerations surrounding material origins and environmental impact are highlighted, underscoring commitment to responsible practice and how to navigate in these questions.
Ultimately, the thesis invites readers into a contemplative space where sculpture, materiality, and poetic expression converge, inviting sensory engagement and emotional resonance in the viewer's experience. The last part delves into the intricate evolution of the exhibition "care, care and care a bit more" from its conceptualization to its realization within the confines of the Kubburinn gallery space. The narrative traces my journey of envisioning sculptural elements that evoke both visceral responses and emotive resonance, while still maintaining their identity within the white cube environment. Inspired by the relentless motion of systems and machinery, I sought to infuse spiritual dimensions into the exhibition, reflecting on the fragility of contemporary societal structures. Through an abstract visual 4 language, the artworks invite multiple interpretations, engaging viewers not only visually but also physically within the dynamic exhibition space. The
chapter elucidates the meticulous process of material exploration and decision-making, drawing from past experiences with circular forms and model-making, combined with an intuitive process. Challenges such as securing metal poles, crafting papier-mâché elements, and selecting ethical materials underscore my commitment to responsible practice and innovation. The journey culminates in a deepening appreciation for the intuitive process and its alignment with feminine energies, propelling further exploration and articulation in my ongoing artistic work.
