In a fast-paced environment like the startup environment is, efficiency can be the difference between success and stagnation. This thesis investigates how single project management and governance can optimize operations at Smitten, an Icelandic startup operating as a project-based organization (PBO). Adopting a mixed exploratory qualitative approach, including autoethnography and semi-structured interviews. The research highlights the pivotal role of structured frameworks in minimizing inefficiencies, even as flexibility fosters innovation and ownership. Findings demonstrate that tools like Asana greatly enhance task transparency and alignment, yet more standardized procedures could further boost overall efficiency. By pinpointing out the factors affecting project workflows and recommending practical steps for improvement, this thesis offers valuable insights for both practitioners and scholars on balancing autonomy with structure to drive impactful project outcomes.
