This thesis is a reflective report exploring the preparations, research and methods implemented in the professional integration project Öldur afkimanna / Waves of Extremity. A short film where the soundtrack is the dominant driving force and narrator. In the following chapters, the relationship between music and film will be dissected as well as improvisation as an artistic method in multiple mediums and within creative steps. Academic theories regarding film history, horror theory and ecology will be explored in relation to this project, as well as the DIY aesthetic and methodology. My artistic background and current practice leading to this project will also be addressed and inspected, in addition to choices made in relation to sibling artworks. Experimentality, extremity, mystery and improvisation are key terms is this thesis, uncovering the artistic currents that collide and veer at the extremity of the unknown.
