Tengslanet eins og Fésbók (e. Facebook) eru hluti af daglegu lífi okkar. Það er því eðlilegt að kennarar velti því fyrir sér hvort hægt sé að nota slík net í skólastarfi. Fésbókin býður notendum uppá ýmsar leiðir til að hafa samskipti sín á milli, meðal annars með því að stofna hópasíður þar sem kennarar og nemendur geta sett inn efni, myndir og myndbönd sem tengjast námsefninu, sent inn fyrirspurnir og rætt námsefnið. Almennt virðast kennarar vera varkárir varðandi Fésbókarnotkun í skólastarfi og vilja hugsa málið vel, ekki síst vegna þess að þeir telja sig vera að hleypa nemendum of nálægt einkalífi sínu ef þeir fara að hafa samskipti við þá á Fésbókinni. Öryggisgallar í Fésbókinni hafa orðið til þess að lokað hefur verið á notkun hennar í nokkrum skólum og notkun hennar á skólatíma þykir einnig trufl-andi. Í þessari grein er greint frá niðurstöðum fyrri rannsókna á Fésbókinni og einnig frá reynslu þriggja íslenskra kennara sem hafa notað Fésbók við kennslu grunn- og framhaldsskólanema.

  • Social networks such as Facebook have become part of our daily lives and therefore it is no wonder that teachers try to find ways to use these networks for educational purposes. Facebook offers users various ways to communicate, e.g. through group pages. Teachers and students can post course material, pictures and videos related to the subject, participate in discussions and pose questions. If teachers and students use group pages they don’t have to be Facebook friends and grant each other access to their private sites. Teachers are generally careful about using Facebook in the classroom mostly because they want to guard their personal privacy. A few schools in Iceland have made arrangements to close student access to sites like Facebook due to security faults as well as the possibility that its use can lead to a lack of students’ focus on learning activities during classes. Results from previous studies of Facebook and experiences from three teachers in Iceland who have been using Facebook as an educational tool, are discussed in this paper.
