Digital video production and task based language learning

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to discuss how new digital video technology can be integrated in foreign language learning today. New forms of literacies have emerged through the impact of new technology, and one of the main challenges for schoolwork today is to offer students new learning opportunities to help them to develop twenty-first-century skills. Today, digital (video) technology makes it easier to let students work with their own video productions, which has immediate implications for classroom practices, as students feel the need to learn with technology in a context in which the construction of content, media, and language knowledge becomes more meaningful. At the end of the article there is a discussion on how digital video streaming can be activated and integrated into foreign language learning within the framework of task based language learning.

Í greininni er fjallað um myndbandagerð nemenda og hvernig má lita á þá vinnu sem tjáskiptaverkefni í tungumálanámi. Viðfangsefni greinarinnar er þríþætt. Í fyrsta lagi er fjallað um einkenni myndbandstextans og nauðsyn þess að markmálið er sýnilegt í kennslu erlendra tungumála. Einnig er gerð grein fyrir nauðsyn þess að virka nemendur til að tala markmálið í kennslustofunni. Í öðru lagi er leitast við að fjalla um einkenni myndbandagerðar í tungumálakennslu. Myndbandagerð nemenda er lýst sem þrautarlausnarnámi þar sem nemendur vinna bæði með tungumálið, myndefnið og tæknina. Að lokum er leitast við að tengja vinnuferlið í gerð myndabanda við verkefnamiðað nám (e. taskbased learning). Lýst er hvað þarf að hafa í huga við ílag (e. pre-task), gagnvirk tjáskiptin (e. during the task) og frálag (e. post-task). Að lokum er gerð grein fyrir mismunandi verkefnategundum.
