  • Að afbyggja afbyggingu : birtingarmynd metamódernisma í verkum Ragnars Kjartanssonar

  • Í ritgerðarsafninu Metamodernism: Historicity, Affect, and Depth after Postmodernism reyna fræðimennirnir Robin Van Den Akker, Alison Gibbons og Timotheus Vermeulen að lýsa hinu listræna andrúmslofti sem einkennir verk samtímalistamanna í dag. Listkerfi póst-módernismans getur ekki lengur útskýrt ýmiskonar listrænar tilhneigingar sem birtast okkur aftur og aftur og kalla ritgerðarsmiðirnir eftir nýju tungumáli sem þeir vilja nefna metamódernisma. Útfrá þeim stíleinkennum sem ritgerðirnar útlista mun ég skoða verk íslenska samtímalistamannsins Ragnars Kjartanssonar og athuga hvort hægt sé að flokka þau sem metamódernísk en Ragnar hefur verið nefndur sem einn af höfuðlistamönnum stefnunnar. Ég mun skoða tvö verk náið með kenningarnar í huga en verkin sem um ræðir eru Stríð (2016) og Heimsljós – líf og dauði listamanns (2016). Auk þess mun ég skoða orðræðu listamannsins um verk sín og hvernig hún er oft í ósamræmi við það sem gagnrýnendur og listfræðingar hafa sagt eða skrifað og hvernig það gæti mögulega styrkt skilgreingu hans sem metamódernista. Einnig mun ég skoða það listræna umhverfi sem Ragnar sprettur upp úr á Íslandi en hann var snemma flokkaður sem „krútt“, fyrirbæri sem gæti mögulega verið metamódernískt en sú gagnrýni sem birtist í ritgerðarsafninu um pólitískt afstöðuleysi stefnunnar er keimlík þeim vangaveltum sem spruttu upp um pólitískt hlutverk íslenska krúttsins í kringum bankahrunið árið 2008.

  • Útdráttur er á ensku

In their collection of essays Metamodernism: Historicity, Affect, and Depth after Postmodernism the editors Robin Van Den Akker, Alison Gibbons og Timotheus Vermeulen gather articles that describe the artistic enviroment that characterize the works of contemporary artists today, but they argue that the post-modern language cannot fully comprehend certain tendencies in the current artistic practice and a new language must be created, that language is metamodernism. From the aesthetical styles these essays portrait as metamodern I will look at the works of Icelandic contemporary artist Ragnar Kjartansson and see how his work fit the description, but he has been labeled as one of the movements leading artists. I will closely analyse two works: Krieg (2016) and World Light – The life and death of an artist (2016) and shed a light how the discourse between the media, critics and the artist are often in contradiction, and how that can possibly strengthen his position as a metamodernist. I will also look at the artistic enviroment that Ragnar emerges from as an young artist, nicknamed –„Krúttkynslóðin“ and wonder if the phenomenon could be labeled as metamodernist, but the critique that both have gotten, and also the aesthetic similarities, share much resemblance.
