  • Drag ögrar og hreyfir við ríkjandi hugmyndafræði samfélagsins um kyn og kyngervi. Í þessari ritgerð er samband birtingamynda konunnar samferða þróun drags skoðað. Litið er til raunveruleikaþáttanna Rupaul’s Drag Race og vinsældanna sem þættinrir hafa hlotið síðastliðin ár. Stuðst er við kenningar félagsfræðinganna Judith Butler og Erving Goffman til greiningar á efninu en hugmyndir um kyn og kyngervi ásamt sviðsetningu á sjálfinu eru leiðandi í gegnum ritgerðina. Saga dragsins er skoðuð svo hægt sé að spá í framtíðina. Þrjár dragdrottningar eru teknar fyrir, tvær úr 9.seríu RuPaul’s Drag Race, þær Sasha Velour og Valentina. Sú síðasta heitir Georgie Bee og fer inn á lokaðan heim dragsins sem annars stendur fyrir fjölbreytileika. Í lokin er svo stuttur samanburður á dragi þeirra þriggja. Hvaða áhrif geta vinsældir dragheimsins haft á samfélagið?

    In this essay the risen popularity of drag in society in contaxt with the image of the female is at focus. The relation between sex and gender is the main subject aswell is the staging of the self. In the first chapter of the essay the theories of sociologists Judith Butler and Erving Goffman are the focus point. The history of drag is touched upon in chapter two in order to understand where it stands now and being able to predict the future. In the third chapter three queens are They all stand for a different kind of drag and all have one thing in common, that is to break the ruling stereotype. Drag is an oppurtunity to change how society understands and defines sex and gender. Only in recent years has drag gotten this big attention from the public and that is because of the reality Tvshow RuPaul’s Drag Race. The popularity of the show in relation to society and ideology about gender will be questioned and researched.
