minkum.
<dim:field mdschema="dc" element="description" qualifier="abstract" lang="en">Icelandic ingredients used in feed for furing animals have only in smaller extend been studied
for their digestibility in mink. Icelandic feed kitchens have been using chemical analyzes of
the raw materials as a support when making feed for mink. Furthermore, they have access to
official reports on digestibility trials on mink at Kopenhagen Fur. However, it can be difficult
to keep track of these reports. The aim of this study is to collect the data of digestibility trials
on mink into a usefull table. In that context 2 digestibility trials on mink with Icelandic raw
materials (lamb blood and lamb fat) were made. The trials were arrranged with a regressional
design with 4 groups of 3 adult male mink. The 4 groups were fed a feedmix with different
amounts of the specified raw material. The result of the digestibility trial with lamb blood was
not surprising compared to other digestibility findings of blood from pig. The result of the
digestibility trial with lamb fat, however, showed that that the digestibility is much higher
than previously claimed. The digestibility was registrered at 95 %. It has not been possible to
conclude why the digestibility of lamb fat is so high. The result, however, is very positve for
the Icelandic feed kitchens and lamb fat will be a good alternative to a fat source in feed for
furing animals.</dim:field>
