Lagt var upp með að ná til allra starfandi félagsráðgjafa á Íslandi sem skráðir eru í Félagsráðgjafafélag Íslands. Notast var við megindlega aðferð í formi spurningalista sem lagður var fyrir rafrænt (fyrirmynd spurningalistans var fengin úr rannsókn frá Portúgal). Þátttakendur voru 271 talsins og var svarhlutfall 54,7%. Kynjaskipting var á þá vegu að 94,1% þátttakenda voru konur og 5,9% karlar. Flestir þátttakendur voru á aldursbilinu 31-35 ára og 56 ára og eldri eða 17,3% í báðum tilfellum. Niðurstöður sýndu að félagsráðgjafar höfðu upplifað andlegt ofbeldi í að meðaltali 35,5% tilfella, einu sinni eða oftar á síðustu 6 mánuðum í starfi. Hvað varðar líkamlegt ofbeldi reyndist það hafa átt sér stað í 2,4% tilfella að meðaltali. Algengasta tegund andlegs ofbeldist reyndist vera að skjólstæðingur hafði hrópað/öskrað á þá eða í 70,5% tilfella. Algengasta tegund líkamlegs ofbeldis reyndist vera að skjólstæðingur togaði eða ýtti í þátttakendur af mikilli hörku eða í 5,5% tilfella. Andlegt ofbeldi reyndist 7,2% algengara hérlendis í samanburði við Portúgal, þar var meðaltal andlegs ofbeldis 28,3% og 2,1% hvað varðar líkamlegt ofbeldi. Algengasta birtingarmynd andlegs ofbeldis reyndist vera sú sama í Portúgal og á Íslandi, að skjólstæðingur hrópaði/öskraði á þá, eða í 64,8% tilfella. &#xd;

The purpose of this study was to seek answers to the research question whether social workers in Iceland experience threats and violence in their job. A quantitative methodology was used in the form of a questionnaire that was submitted electronically to all members in the Social Work Association in Iceland (model of the questionnaire was obtained from a study from Portugal). There were 271 participants and the response rate was 54,7%. Of those who participated, 94,1% were females and 5,9% males. Most participants were 31-35 years old and 56 years old or older or 17,3% in both cases. The result showed that social workers had experienced psycological violence on average 35,5% once or more in the last six months in their job. In terms of physical violence, it had occured in 2,4% cases on average. The most common type of psychological violence was when a client shouted or yelled at the social worker or in 70,5% of cases. The most common type of physical violence was when a client had pulled or pushed the participant forcefully or in 5,5% of cases. Psychological violence was 7,2% more common in Iceland compared to Portugal were the average was 28,3% and 2,1% in terms of physical violence. The most common type of psychological violence was the same in Portugal and Iceland, that a client shouted or yelled at the social worker, or in 64,8% cases. &#xd;
