Þrátt fyrir mikla aukningu ferðamanna á Íslandi yfir vetrartímann hefur ekki tekist að stuðla að betri dreifingu ferðamanna um landið. Markaðsstofa Norðurlands, Flugþróunarsjóður og Air 66N hafa stigið mikilvægt skref í uppbyggingu millilandaflugs um Akureyrarflugvöll. Nú þegar er árangur verkefnisins sýnilegur, þar sem að ferðaskrifstofan Super Break hefur hafið beint millilandaflug inn á svæðið frá Bretlandi. Meginmarkmið rannsóknarinnar er að skoða viðhorf og væntingar farþega Super Break á dvöl þeirra á Norðurlandi eystra og hvort væntingum þeirra sé mætt. Til þess að fá svör við þessum spurningum var spurningakönnun lögð fyrir farþega Super Break og einnig voru viðtöl tekin við hagsmunaaðila. Helstu niðurstöður rannsóknarinnar eru þær að farþegar Super Break eru heilt yfir ánægðir með dvöl sína á Norðurlandi eystra og jákvæðir fyrir því að koma aftur. Væntingum þeirra um að upplifa snjó, kulda og norðurljós var mætt í 90% tilfella. Lykilorð: Norðurland eystra, árstíðabundnar sveiflur, væntingar, upplifun, áfangastaður. Despite a great increase in tourism in Iceland, the tourist industry has been unable to ensure a better distribution of tourists over the whole country. Visit North Iceland, Icelandic Route Development fund and Air 66N have taken important steps in the development of international flight routes to and from Akureyri Airport. The fruits of their labour can already be seen in the fact that Super Break has established direct flight routes to the area from Britain. The aim of this study is to look at the attitude and expectations of Super Break passengers concerning their stay in Northeast Iceland and whether these expectations were met. In order to collect data, Super Break passengers were asked to answer a questionnaire and stakeholders were also interviewed. The main results are that Super Break passengers are overall happy with their stay in Northeast Iceland and are positive about returning. 90% of the passengers said that their expectations of experiencing snow, cold and the northern lights were met.
