<dim:field mdschema="dc" element="description" qualifier="abstract" lang="en">Tourism is a big sector world wide and has grown rapidly in the last six decades. National parks are popular destinations for tourists. In Iceland there are three national parks and the oldest one is the national park of Þingvellir. Þingvellir National Park hosts the oldest parliament in the world, established there in year 930 and unique geological features.A large number of tourists visit the national park every year which demands an increasing amount of physical infrastructure. Paralell to that the national park has been collecting data, both directly and indirectly, on visitor use of infrastructure in the park. Data collection methods included a camera system on parking lots and trail counters. This assignment was twofold: In the first part available data from two years were analysed. The goal was to test if it is possible to use the available data on visits and the use of infrastructure to developea model by which to forecast the effects growing tourist numbers would have on infrastructure tolerance and the experience of guests. The results show that with unchanged data the analysis only gives a limited vision. On the other hand, the analysis increased understanding on what needs to be done regarding the arrangement of the data and how they are represented. To reach that goal, suggestions are made on how to improve the data. It is suggested that the data collection in the national park will be improved in some ways and it will be ensured that park staff will have access to the data at all times. It is also suggested that the park regularly implement visitor surveys with the results consolidated with the available data. In that way the national park authorities can determine at what point visitor experience deteriorates. The second part of this assignment was a visitor survey that was conducted from the 24th of August 2020 until the 4th of October2020. The goal was to survey the experience of visitors in the national park of Þingvellir at a unique time when the pandemic of COVID-19 was ongoing.Posters with QR-codes were hung up in the park and certain sites were manned by a plan that was decided beforehand. Guests scanned the QR-code and from there they were led onto the site where the visitor survey was hosted. In total 298 guests (n=298) answered the questions and the main results indicated that the guests were very satisfied with their experience of their visit to the national park in the period in question.Furthermore, important basic data of guests attitudes towards infrastructure and their experience was gained, an exercise readily repeated with arising data complimentary to existing datasets.</dim:field>
