Háskólinn á Bifröst Pétur Ármannsson 1987- Bergsveinn Þórsson 1983- Í þessari ritgerð er fjallað um stöðu danslistar á Íslandi með áherslu á hvernig kynjaðar hugmyndir og stofnanabundin mismunun hafa mótað aðstöðu, viðurkenningu og fjármögnun greinarinnar. Þrátt fyrir vaxandi fagmennsku og alþjóðlega viðurkenningu hefur danslist ekki hlotið sambærilegan opinberan stuðning og margar aðrar listgreinar. Rannsóknin leitast við að greina félagslegar og menningarlegar forsendur þessarar stöðu og hvaða áhrif hún hefur á starfsumhverfi og þróun greinarinnar. Fræðilegur rammi ritgerðarinnar byggir á femínískum kenningum og gagnrýninni kynjafræði með áherslu á hvernig kyngervi, vald og stofnanabundin viðmið móta stöðu listforma. Danslist er skoðuð sem líkamlegur og sögulega kvenlægur vettvangur sem hefur orðið eftir í opinberri stefnumótun og menningarlegri viðurkenningu. Rannsóknin byggir á blandaðri aðferðafræði þar sem notast er við eigindleg viðtöl, opinber skjöl, fjárhagsgögn og sögulegan samanburð. Gögnin voru greind með þemagreiningu og margprófun notuð til að auka réttmæti niðurstaðna. Niðurstöður sýna að skortur á aðstöðu, sýnileika, starfsöryggi og faglegri viðurkenningu hefur dregið úr möguleikum danslistar til að þróast. Ritgerðin undirstrikar nauðsyn markviss stuðnings til að treysta stöðu danslistar sem sjálfstæðrar og fullgildrar listgreinar. This thesis explores the status of contemporary dance in Iceland, with a particular focus on how gendered assumptions and institutional discrimination have shaped its infrastructure, recognition, and public funding. Despite growing professionalism and international acclaim, dance has not received the same level of governmental support as many other art forms. The study aims to reveal the social and cultural foundations of this marginal position and examine how it affects the working conditions and development of the field. The theoretical framework is grounded in feminist theory and critical gender studies, emphasizing how gender, power, and institutional norms influence which art forms are recognized and supported. Dance is examined as a physical and historically feminized form of expression that has been left behind in policy-making and cultural validation. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative interviews, public policy documents, financial data, and historical comparison. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis, and triangulation was employed to enhance the validity of the findings. The results show that limited access to space, visibility, job security, and institutional recognition has constrained the professional growth and autonomy of the dance sector.
